Aperture
Aperture is the hole in the camera that lets different amounts of light into the camera. The bigger the hole the quicker the shutterspeed needs to be and the smaller the hole the slower the shutter speed needs to be.
The size of the aperture are measured in f numbers. The typical f numbers are

Depth of field
Depth of field is the amout focus that is in the background and forground of the image. It all depends on the size of the aperture, the bigger the aperture the more blured the background is and focused the forground is- this is called shallow depth of field. And the smaller the aperture the more focus there is in the background and depth of the image- this is called a deeper depth of field. Photos with deep depth of fields are best for landscape and photos with a shallow depth of field are best for portriat keeping the main person in focus.
Here are a few exmples of shallow and deep depth images.

This image has a shallow depth of field. This photo was taken with a large aperture. I like this image because the prespective of it makes it look asif the flower is as tall as the buildings in the background.

This also is a shallow depth image as the cats face is in focus whereas the body is out of focus. I like the fact that half of this cat is in focus and half is out of focus.

This image has a deep depth of field. In the distance of the image it is still crisp and clear. I like the way this image has leading lines and it gradually gets more distance still staying clear.

This image also has a deep depth of image as you can see the photo stays clear as it gets futher away. This image also uses leading lines. I like the angle of this photograph.

I like this image because the shallow depth of field gives the whole photo a professional look.

I like Savannah's facial expression on this as it gives the whole photo a positive vibe.

I think the shallow depth of field worked really well in this photo as the focus on Katie's face is really clear and the background is nicely blurred.
